I hate Dell Customer Support. My computer has a blown power supply. So I called Dell's call center and they do really long and cumbersome verification process., enter your Express Service code.
my PC is old model and don't have the express code. So must wait until I failed the one round of Express code entry, only then option to talk with operator is available. Then after got hold of Mary (the operator), must tell her my service tag, then she gave me my express code and asked me to called back. Don't they know redirecting?
Ok whateverlah. I called back and hear again the instruction. The girl gave me the wrong number! So then I have to go another fail-round, then I talked to another operator after like 10 minutes on-hold.
I gave her the right service tag (again), then she still probe me. want my invoice numberlah. want my addresslah. mwho purchase the PC?
so much protocol. then she wanted me to call back again but I insisted her to hear out my problem. finally she give some actual customer support. and guess wha was her answer?
"sorry, we dun produce power supply for your model anymore"
"wth"
"you must find shops somewhere"
"is there any shops in dell list"
"I dunno, you have to find yourself"
"grrr"
And that ordeal took like 30 minutes.
SO to Dell..
1) reduce all the protocol
2) start with asking the nature of the problem cause if really basic problem, you can solve without putting people into long verification process
really2 badlah service dell. even TMnet who has bad reputation is better.

sir/madam,
seriously, that's why most of us turn to Lowyat Plaza and ask the shop there to come out with the best specification for our money. reason to not use branded PC (such as HP, Dell, Compaq) are:
1) their service sucks big time.
2) user can't reformat their Operation System (Windows) on their own.
3) the license are fucking expensive. Windows XP for Rm 300?? Buy pirate for RM 10 per dvd.
it's quite hard to learn about computers and how they work but once you know how to troubleshoot your PC, nothing could stop you from modifying it, enhancing it, except branded PC which have BIOS restriction (in Acer PC), hardware drivers not enclosed with purchase (in HP and Compaq PC) and lots more restriction so the person who buying it need to subscribe to their sucked ass services.
seriously, just dump your old CPU. with only RM 1K, you could get a decent CPU (monitor, keyboard and mouse could be obtain from your old Dell PC). as long as you don't kick your CPU, it will hold still for at least 5 years (just like my PC which hold still for marvelous 6 years).
nevertheless, the choice is yours.
p/s: in the case of Laptop, i buy with OpenOS options (come with no operation system and i need to find hardware drivers and installing windows on my own) but hell yeah, it's worth my time cause when the laptop have some problem, i could fix it on my own.
p/p/s: you really need to give a try on Linux OS. they couldn't be better for any platform. i'm still a newbie in Linux OS but taking into serious consideration of replacing my Windows XP for Ubuntu Linux.
p/p/p/s: cheers~
